Burnet Park Site Development Plan Released by the City

In the wake of the release of the Site Development Plan for Brentwood Park, a multi-family development on Burnet Road between Clay and Adams, neighbors have expressed concerns as to whether the project meets the City's requirements regarding road width (along their only driveway on Adams) and what appeals may be in order (or allowed). Following is the original report from the City's Traffic Planner and their response to BNA neighbor, Sam Shore:

Mr. Shore,
In order to mitigate the traffic impacts to Adams Avenue that were identified in the Neighborhood Traffic Analysis (NTA) for the Burnet Park site (attached), the applicant will widen the pavement from the northern property line of the site to Burnet Road, from 27 to 30 feet. This roadway modification is allowed under Land Development Code section 25-6-142.
It is my understanding that additional traffic-related improvements were previously discussed with other City staff that included extending sidewalks to Ulrich, installing bike lanes on Burnet Road, and a installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Burnet Road and Adams Avenue. Requiring the extension of sidewalks beyond the proposed site and the installation of bike lanes along Burnet Road goes beyond what we can legally require as conditions of site plan approval for this site. Any required improvements by the applicant would need to be balanced with the traffic impacts from the proposed site.
The Austin Transportation Department analyzed the intersection of Burnet Road and Adams Avenue and determined that the intersection did not currently meet warrants for a traffic signal and would not be expected to meet warrants with the development of the Burnet Park site. Therefore, we cannot require the applicant to contribute to a signal at the intersection at this time.
Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions regarding the transportation review of this case.
Regards,

Shandrian Jarvis, AICP

Ferrovecchio Memorial Cancelled

It is with much regret that we have decided to cancel the memorial dedication service for Renald Ferrovecchio tomorrow due to inclement weather and late word that the family will NOT be attending.

We have a 90% chance of rain with a high of 51 predicted. We know there's always a chance that the weather will clear, but it does not look good.

We will post any rescheduled date on the blog and BNA E-Group. Sorry for any inconvenience.

MEMORIAL CHANGE OF DATE

The short memorial and dedication for Renald Ferrevecchio originally scheduled to take place after this Saturday's (March 3), It's My Park Day has been rescheduled. The new date is Saturday, March 10th at 1 pm (Brentwood Park). This change is due to the Ferrevecchio family's desire to attend the ceremony.

As mentioned before, we'll be meeting just under the new, beautiful Purple Martin Birdhouse. The ceremony will be short and sweet; please come out and show some neighborly love.

LiveStrong Austin Marathon

The LiveStrong Austin Marathon will be racing through the Brentwood neighborhood on February 19, 2012. The route will be the same as it was last year, which means that Brentwood will be right in the heart of the action. We are located at approximately the 20 mile mark of the course. This is a great opportunity for our community to come out and cheer on the participants as they come closer to reaching their individual goals. It is also an occassion for traffic and access issues. Ari Witkin, of the LiveStrong Austin Marathon, urged anyone who had issues or concerns to contact him directly for assistance at ari@youraustinmarathon.com; cell: 512-585-0158.

BOLO from APD

"Here is the public BOLO (be on the lookout), that has previously been sent out in a press release, on an indecent exposure that occurred on Christmas Day, Dec 25th, in the same area as the New Year's Eve Attack. I hope this BOLO is seen everywhere and passed around all the neighborhood sites that we can get it to. It includes a specific description of the exposure suspects shirt worn on Christmas day. Someone out there knows this guy and we need to get to that person. This is a case that the public will absolutely be needed to help us solve it.

I think if someone knows this guy, they need to see this bolo with THIS SPECIFIC INFORMATION. Thanks for any help can give in getting this out, I hope to see it EVERYWHERE. Thanks very much for the help!!!!" --- APD Lt. Eveleth
